Banned Books Week: The Harry Potter Series

The Harry Potter Series are some of the most frequently challenged books, according to the American Library Association. While the series has been commended by tons of teachers and parents for getting children to read, as well as being an excellent story, some people think the series puts dangerous ideas in children’s heads. In parts of the United States, and even in J.K. Rowling’s home country the United Kingdom, the Harry Potter series has been banned from schools, libraries, and even in some cases burned in public. The “rationales” for the banning of the beloved series are that the books promote witchcraft, set bad examples for children, and are too dark. I encourage you to check out Harry Potter today and decide for yourself.
