Life in the Stacks: A Library Drama Part 54
Carly shook her head. “Sorry, I’m fine. That phone call sounds creepy. Do you really think Brett would do something like that?”
“I don’t know. He was pretty pissed when I broke up with him.” Angel titled her head. “It didn’t really sound like him, though. I just figured it was one of his friends.”
“Have you noticed anything else strange?” asked Carly. “Anyone lurking around the library or on Facebook?”
Angel shrugged. “Not really.”
Grayson rounded the corner and Carly took her chance. “Hey Grayson, have you met Angel? I think you all go to the same school.”
Stopping in his tracks, Grayson’s face flushed pink.
Angel giggled and waved a little ‘hi’ to Grayson. “Yeah, us and about a million other kids. I better get on this cart,” she said and disappeared around the corner with a stack of books.
Carly watched Grayson as he stared at the spot where Angel had just been. “You know I’ve noticed,” she said.
“Noticed what?” He flopped his black hair away from his eyes.
“The way you watch her.” Carly waited for the pink to return, but instead she saw an awful shade of red.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he mumbled.
Carly raised an eyebrow. “I think you do. I think you know a lot about a mysterious phone call and note that was left on her car last night.”
Grayson leaned forward on the desk. “Stay out of my business.”
“That girl is my business.” Carly stood. “Don’t make me contact the authorities.”
“And tell them what exactly?” Grayson rose to his full height. He had a good couple of inches on Carly.
“Just stop what you’re doing now, Grayson, and this doesn’t have to get messy.”
Angel rounded the corner and furrowed her brow as she took in the scene. “Everything ok, Carly?”
