Life in the Stacks: A Library Drama Part 57
Grayson watched Angel rummage around in her purse for her keys. “They always drop to the bottom.” She gave Grayson an apologetic smile. “My brother says if I didn’t carry a duffle bag for a purse I wouldn’t have this problem.”
She laughed lightly at her own joke as her cell phone went off. Grayson grimaced as she answered it. “Brett, I don’t want to talk to you. In fact, I can’t. I’m busy.” She winked at Grayson, making his heart leap to his throat.
“What I’m doing is none of your business,” she snapped into the phone. Setting her purse on the back of Grayson’s car, she continued the search for her keys. She put her hand over the phone, rolled her eyes and whispered, “I’m sorry,” to Grayson.
“If it’s all a big misunderstanding then why did you leave that creepy message on my home phone?” Grayson cringed. Would she believe Brett when he said he didn’t leave the message? “My mom is totally freakin’ out. I can barely leave the house alone anymore. That was totally uncool.”
She listened for a minute longer then sighed. “Brett, I really am helping someone out and can’t talk right now. I’ll call you back in a few.” She snapped her phone shut.
“Sorry ‘bout that. He just can’t get over the fact that not all girls believe his crap.” Tossing the phone back in her purse, she sighed again. “Grayson, can I ask you something that I’m hoping you won’t take the wrong way?”
Grayson tried to say, “You can ask me anything,” but his tongue felt swollen in his mouth so he just grunted.
“Why are all guys jerks? I mean they talk all smooth and get you to go out with them. So you do, then they say, ‘they don’t want to force you into anything you don’t want to do’ so you tell them you aren’t ready, and then they’re on to the next conquest. It just really pisses me off. I’m tired of everyone telling me what I want, when it’s really what they want and they’re trying to force me to want what they want.”
Grayson’s heart sank. Was he really like all the rest of them?
