Life in the Stack: A Library Drama Part 58
Angel waited for Grayson’s response. He shrugged and shook his head. Angel sighed and let out a nervous giggle. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to go all crazy on you. I’m just frustrated with life at the moment.” She snapped her purse closed. “I must’ve left my keys inside.” She swung her purse over her shoulder. “I’ll be right back.”
She turned back to the loading dock door, only to find a hand over her mouth and something sharp in pressing against her side.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” whispered Grayson. “But if you scream I will have to. Do you understand?”
Tears flooded Angel’s eyes as she slowly nodded yes. Her mind raced as her eyes scanned the parking lot looking for a patron or co-worker to help her. “Don’t let him take you out of this parking lot” was all she could think.
If she struggled enough she might be able to bite his hand and run away. Before she could make her move, Grayson started dragging her backward toward the open door of his car. His grip was tight, making her struggle virtually impossible. So she went limp.
She heard Grayson grunt as he adjusted for her extra weight, but he continued to drag her with ease. He tossed her into the backseat of the car. She instantly turned and started kicking and screaming. Her heel met Grayson’s eye and he fell back. She fumbled for the door handle; it wouldn’t open. He must’ve set the child locks. She screamed more as she tried to climb over into the front seat.
Grayson recovered and threw himself on top of Angel, bringing her tumbling down onto the backseat. His weight knocked the air out of her, cutting off her cries for help. Covering her mouth he shoved the exacto-knife in her face. “Don’t make me hurt you!”
Before Angel could respond, the driver’s side door flung open and Carly slid in, slamming it behind her. She turned to face Grayson and Angel. She looked into Angel’s eyes and spoke evenly. “Grayson, the police have been called. You have two choices. Let Angel go and take me instead or wait until the police come. If you don’t let Angel go, this will end very bad for you. Let her go and I will help you.”
