HALLOWEEN AND COMMEMORATIONS OF THE DEAD by Roseanne Montillo
For us mere mortals, death is inevitable. Therefore many cultures have special holidays to honor those or remember those people who have passed before us. Originally, Halloween was a day dedicated to the dead; but over the years has turned into a commercial event that is popular with children.
Many countries have a different day in which they remember loved ones that have died such as the holiday Day of the Dead which is celebrated in many countries in Latin America, including Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Check out this book Halloween and Commemorations of the Dead by Roseanne Montillo to learn of different customs around the world including Halloween, All Souls' Day, Tomb Sweeping Day, and the Ghost Festival. You will find it in Juvenile Non-fiction books.
